Beste vrienden van de Ocean Fours,
Vanuit de Atlantic Highlands, dichtbij Manhattan hier een korte
update met de stand van zaken omtrent het vertrek van ons avontuur. Zoals jullie weten was ons geplande afvaart afgelopen
maandag 23 mei, echter doordat de weergoden het niet helemaal met elkaar eens waren over de wind hebben we onze start moeten
uitstellen. De omstandigheden waren 3 – 5 beaufort tegen, natuurlijk gaan wij deze omstandigheden straks tegenkomen
maar aangezien we zo snel mogelijk in de golfstroom willen zitten zonder al te veel vertraging zouden we het liefst 3 dagen
een lichte bries in de rug willen hebben. En zoals het er nu uit ziet gaat dit hoogstwaarschijnlijk gebeuren aanstaande vrijdag
of zaterdag.
De vaderlandse pers is ook erg betrokken bij het hele gebeuren omtrent onze start, zoals bijvoorbeeld Max Westerman
die ons de hele dag gevolgd heeft toen we vrijdag de boot deels gesleept en geroeid hebben naar Manhattan. Zoals je kan zien
op de foto leverde dit mooie prenten op voor het plakboek. Rtl 4 zal op de dag van onze start het stukje uitzenden tijdens
het Nieuws.
Afgelopen zaterdag was een mooie dag voor ons allen, maar lieft 150 Nederlanders die naar New York waren gekomen
voor de festiviteiten omtrent onze start. Zaterdag begon met een zeiltocht over de Hudson met alle sponsors, deze happening
was een succes mede door het fantastische weer en de ongedwongen stemming aan boord. Alle sponsors waren erg enthousiast en
na de zeiltocht zijn we gedropt in de North Cove Marina vanwaar we met Lil Toot naar het starthuis van de Manhattan Yacht
Club werden getransporteerd. Na een uitgebreide persconferentie hebben we onder het genot van wat happen en snappen lekker
kunnen genieten van het fantastische uitzicht over Manhattan met al onze vrienden.
Nadat het weer aan het eind van de middag omsloeg leverde dat spectaculaire beelden op van New York, aan de ene kant
zwarte wolken daarnaast strakke blauwe lucht, regen en daar in het midden de Manhattan Yacht Club. Na een enerverende terugtocht
konden we met de hele ploeg om 8 uur aanschuiven op de Dutch Club alwaar we de gehele dag in stijl hebben afgesloten. De Ocean
Fours wil iedereen ontzettend bedanken voor hun positieve bijdrage aan deze fantastische dag, zonder jullie was deze dag niet
geworden wat het nu was. Ook zouden we de gehele Heineken ploeg willen bedanken voor de gehele organisatie van deze dag, met
in het bijzonder Dennis Peek, en Niek Vonk; klasse jongens.
Zoals gezegd ziet het er vanaf komende vrijdag goed uit

For every 1000 km that the Ocean Fours row the WWF will receive from the net proceeds of the Postcode Lottery 10.000
Euro with a maximum of 63.000 Euro (6300 km). If the Ocean Fours break the record en that’s rowing for55 days, the WWF
wil receive another 37.000 Euro from the net proceeds of the Postcode Lottery. The WWF will use the received money to support
a seaturtle project. Seaturtles are endangered species who live in the ocean. The WWF need to do reseach so they can protect
the animals from dying out.
